by using a helicopter to remove the items from the top of the chimney and bringing materials up, we probably save 3-4 weeks of time.
pullman power, dry fork stations chimney contractor, built the plants chimney stack using a hydraulic lift system. now, that equipment needs to be removed and the roof or rain cap needs to be delivered to the top of the stack.
before that happens, final preparations are made that includes a job safety annaysis.
all riggings inspected. all of our rigging is brand new nylon chokers on top and on the ground.
once the rigging crews are in place on the stack and the staging area, the pilots buckle in.
the helicopter lift is about to begin here at the dry fork station. the east half of the plant has been shut down to all road access as well as the railroad for about two hours while the lift is happening. the helicopter behind me is about ready to take off for its first trip.
doug ramsey: this will be the first pick off the top of the chimney. they are going to remove what they call the cat head. thats the eye beams that supported some of the structures on top of the chimney.
the support structures and strand jack system were used in the construction of the chimneys steel liner, which is inside the 500 foot concrete shell.
doug ramsey: theres, i believe, nine loads to be removed from the top of the chimney and then theres seven loads that will be hauled from the staging area up to the top of the chimney, which are the components for the rain cap, the roof section of the top of the chimney.
once welded in place, the rain cap will protect the stack from the elements.
as always, safety is top priority. the pilot and riggers on the stack are in constant communication during the lift.
i try and get him to bring it in towards me and i grab the tagline and well just kind of pull the taglines apart to keep them from spinning around and once you get it spun the way you want it to, ill just tell him, you know, down, down, down and hell just basically push it down in between the stack.
in all, this sikorsky helicopter makes 11 trips with 16 individual picks before landing.
after a month of planning and just 48 minutes in the air, the lift is complete. without the helicopter
we would have had to erect a gin pole and use a hoist to do it manually, which would have impacted contractors around the chimney. so, this was safer and much more efficient for us.
all the planning paid off.
the lift went fantastic. it was boring, which is what we shoot for.
the chimney stack is now 95 percent complete. pullman power just needs to weld the rain cap in place and finish the electrical work.

megra's mom was going to be late for dinner tonight, which is common for her mom and tuesday. since her mom was at work it was megra's unspoken duty to get dinner heated up, to set the table, do the dishes and take care of the house. zach was in his house and we is bored so he was walking, with a notebook and pen, around trying to find something to do, or inspiration for a song, when he saw megra setting her table. megra is wearing a white dress and converse, seeing her in a dress is a very rare thing, but unfortunately for her, it is the only clean piece of clothing she has after spilling on the clothes she was wearing at school. megra's kitchen has a big window instead of a wall, and zach's entrance has a little hall with closets behind it, and instead of a brick wall there is a window and a little ledge big enough for someone to sit. zach is walking there and from this hall he can see megra's every move in the kitchen he decides to sit down and watch her. she has given him some inspiration, and he wants to watch someone he loves. while watching her he is thinking and every so often writing a couple of lyrics down. zach sees her setting the table and he smiles because he knows some people look for different things in girls, some look for that she can take care of the home, which zach doesn't look for, but when he gets married he also doesn't want to have to do all the house work, he doesn't want to make her do all the house work all the time either, but he want someon willing to help out with a smile, and that is what he sees megra doing. eventually megra's dad comes down and they eat. megra and her dad don't always see eye to eye on a good amount of things, but they get along well. this is partially due to the fact that megra is a person who likes to deal with personalities, she is a good judge of people's personalities, and she is a great judge of emotion, which helps her with relationships, especially with her dad because she quickly learned what to say when, how to say it how to push things, and how to respond. zach looks and sees her dad is reading a magazine and eating while megra eats and every so often her dad points to the magazine, which he can tell is some hardware so some sort magazine, and talks to megra. through the whole meal megra has a pleasant face one. a face that says she isn't jumping for joy, but at the same time she isn't having a bad time either she is purely content, plain and simple. zach sees this and realizes that is one thing he loves about her, the fact that you could sit with her for ever say nothing, never feel the need to say anything, but you would still have a great time just being in each others company. this is something that most girls don't understand, and most guys don't want, but it is important to zach and he realizes how important it is to him when he is watching megra with her dad. he could watch her all day, but he hears his mom call him for dinner so he gives her one last look just as she looks directly at him, and she waves, he waves back and walks to dinner.
